United Way gifts $10,000 to Club food program
YERINGTON, Nev. – United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra stepped up in a big way Tuesday, granting $10,000 to Boys & Girls Clubs of Mason Valley for the Club’s expanded food program.
Since schools and the Club closed in mid-March, BGCMV has been delivering and handing out meals to families in Yerington, Dayton, Silver Springs and Hawthorne, recently topping 15,000 total meals. While the Club has since opened, the expanded meal program will continue for those who need it.
“It’s been great to see organizations like United Way joining in our goal to make sure nobody goes hungry during such a difficult time,” said Travis Crowder, chief professional officer for the Club. “It’s brings a smile to your face when you see how happy these kids and families are, but it’s been an incurred cost we weren’t expecting. We can’t thank United Way enough for helping us continue to serve our communities.”
Boys & Girls Clubs of Mason Valley will be serving youth in all sites by June 8, and will continue its meal program both in-site and via delivery and pickup to meet demand through the summer. Yerington, Dayton and Hawthorne sites are currently open to all families, and the Silver Springs site will open June 8.
