When you think back-to-school, think afterschool for academic success

Boys & Girls Clubs of Mason Valley afterschool programs target academics for $10 per year

YERINGTON, Nev. –  As back-to-school approaches, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Mason Valley reminds the communities they serve that their afterschool program serves youth ages 5-18. Club membership is only $10 per year.

Christina Hurt, director of development for the Club, said when you think back-to-school, parents also need to think about what happens after school.

“The way young people spend their afterschool hours can significantly impact their success in school and life, yet over 11 million kids leave school with nowhere to go,” she said. “We offer a safe, supportive environment with quality programs that support what our kids learn during school.”

The Club provides programming in arts, sports, fitness and recreation, character and leadership development, education, technology and career development as well as health and life skills to over 450 kindergartners all the way up to seniors in high school in Dayton, Hawthorne, Silver Springs and Yerington.

“It’s only $10 for the entire school year to enroll your child in the Club,” Travis Crowder, chief professional officer for the Club, said. “We keep our fees as low as possible in order to serve as many youths as possible.”

Hurt said being involved in the Club is more than just about academic success, it is important in the social development of our youth.

“Helping our kids catch up or even get ahead through our educational programming is a primary focus for the Club during the school year,” Hurt said. “The Club is a great place to receive tutoring and homework help, but it is also a great place to meet new friends and a way to stay safe and out of trouble.”
